Argument Against "Cap and Trade" (Response to Capt'n Trade)

Capt'n Trade was an entirely different argument. Pies in a family business has nothing to do with the United States economy. What works in family microeconomics does not necessarily work in global macroeconomics.

I believe everything I say in the video is correct. If not, I certainly did not mean to mislead. However, thanks to the Orwellian society in which Americans like myself now live, knowing the truth is very difficult because truth really does not seem to matter much anymore to people in Washington or in the media.

Lastly, I am a very introverted individual. I would not make a good politician because frankly I do not have the personality. I did not upload this video for any reason but to communicate my thoughts in this unfortunate issue to the world.

I welcome comments for discussion. Certainly, I believe discussion and debate are very important. I am willing to reconsider my position on "Cap and Trade" if I am wrong. However, I cannot deduce how "Cap and Trade" is good policy for the American people.

  • You haven't done a whole lot of research I see. Check out the EU's cap and trade program and their results. Not perfect by any means, but its doing some good.

Certainly a better option than simply putting a flat cap on all pollution levels.

  • You are correct in assuming I have not researched the EU's cap and trade program. However, I'm not certain it is relevant since the US is not the EU. I'm not saying that cap and trade won't reduce carbon dioxide or lead to some businesses becoming more environmentally friendly. Yet, other businesses will probably leave the country. The U.S. already has a high corporate tax rate (although the IRS allows for exceptions). US government interests will benefit more than the average US citizen.

  • The premise of this video has nothing to do with global warming and everything to do with cap and trade as it pertains to global warming.

Also, American children need Algebra for many jobs, and Algebra is important in mathematics. Yet, if the federal government passed a bill saying only all schools must have 100 percent of students meet a certain standard, that is unreasonable, especially if you find that lawmakers and their friends have invested heavily in test prep companies.

  • Its definitely relevant since it is the only current large scale cap and trade program running, from which the US will be getting most of their ideas.

Its turned out quite well, and despite the doomsayers its had a negligible economic downside and the EU is one of the most powerful and innovative economies in the world. I'd highly recommend doing more research on this topic.

  • You're right. And it's because you are "introverted" that you have critically thought about this issue.
