Jerry Lewis apologizes for gay slur

Comedian Jerry Lewis is apologizing for using the word "fag" during his annual Labor Day Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy. He said the gay slur when he was joking with a cameraman during the 18th hour of his telethon. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, denounced Lewis for his comment. Lewis says there are no excuses for what he said and he accepts responsibility for it.

Actress Halle Berry is three months pregnant with her first child. Berry confirmed the news yesterday, saying the father is model boyfriend Gabriel Aubrey whom she met two years ago. The 41-year-old says she and Aubrey are beyond excited, and the next seven months will be the longest of her life.

Actress Nicole Kidman is revealing that she lost a baby shortly after her marriage to Tom Cruise. In a recent interview, she said she was devastated by the miscarriage. Kidman says that incident led to their decision to adopt. Kidman and Cruise's adopted children Bella and Connor are now 14 and 12. The actress says she's still yearning to have a baby of her own. Kidman is now married to country music star Keith Urban.

Whoopi Goldberg started her stint on the View yesterday defending convicted felon Michael Vick. Goldberg is replacing Rosie O'Donnell on the ABC talk show. The comedian said she believes dog-fighting was part of Vick's cultural upbringing, who was raised in the South. She said there are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of our country, and it probably took a while for the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback to realize the charges against him were serious.

Britney Spears is reportedly cleared of child-welfare complaints. Her lawyer says it doesn't appear the county will pursue any action at this time. There's no word on who made these complaints, and there are no details on the nature of the complaints. Court officials say there will be at least three more court hearings this year to consider her ex-husband, Kevin Federline's, request for primary custody of their two sons.
