@schnabby - The intro is Williams' arrangement of "Bugler's Dream", the original TV Olympic theme. Written by Leo Arnaud for his "Charge Suite" in 1958, ABC used it starting in '64, combining it with another piece by Arnaud called "Olympic Theme". (It's the "fast part" that you don't hear in the Williams piece - it's on an album called Stars & Stripes: Fanfares, Marches & Wind Band Spectaculars). It's tough to find the non-Williamsified version online. Hear Bugler's Dream at v=9ndFvVxK4yM.

Maybe the closing ceremonies were a bit alternative but Canada chose to make its biggest statement on the ice and snow where it counts...14 gold medals and Canada WINS the winter Olympics, well done you beautiful country you!

@twinkleskate i'm canadian, and I agree with you. In fact, everyone I watched it with...there were cool bits but...we found a lot of it a bit odd.
Why did you use the 1986 Olympic Fanfare?
hollywood6minutes 1 year ago
@hollywood6minutes because the song is the theme of the olympics
