World's tamest, smartest and first ever trained ASF rat died last night.

Poldi introduced many to ASF rats as pets and tried his best to disprove this species' reputation for being nothing but nasty biters.

And as you can see, Poldi adored mice, and the mice adored Poldi. They will surely miss him.

  • What a lovely tribute. I'm sorry for your loss. Your love for your animals really show in all your videos. I'm happy to see animals well cared for and loved and appreciated. What is the average life span for captive mice and rats? I've never had any experience with captive mice and rats, only the ones outside. Some took residence in our shed and others can be found not too far away from the bird feeders I have. I do love to watch them, although they're almost never too happy if they see me.

  • thanks for your comment! captive mice and rats are quite prone of tumors and pneumonia, so mice hardly ever get older than 2 years. but i breed mine for health, NOT for beauty or special colors, that's why they all look the same. but on the other hand, they are much more healthy and intelligent than beautiful fancy mice.

  • I am a new owner to ASFs, and will be getting my first colony of them in the next few days. I stumbled upon your website today, and then this video while reading an article. The work with your rodents is absolutely inspiring, especially with these little guys. My desire is to breed them as pets, and you have outlined everything I hope for with my fuzzy babies. Thank you for these videos, and thank you for being such a great inspiration for myself, others, and little fuzzies everywhere.

  • @JenMayHugYea, me too. It always tears my heart out when I lose a pet. It's clear that Poldi was a very kind soul. He was the ambassador for ASF's everywhere. Thank you Poldi.

  • I've never thought of mice and rats as pets- but I really like Poldi! You sure can see what a great companion he must have been. His face has so much expression in the still pictures, it amazes me!
