I get this all the damn time on my computer, while doing nothing else by playing. And at a 15 framerate, too.

I experienced that in Outland with a GeForce Go7300 2 years ago. If I remember well, it was a WoW bug that Blizzard fixed afterwards.
You should try a driver upgrade.

I used to get that as well (8800gt) but only when I was running another directx application on my second monitor at the same time (like my Zune software with full graphics processing enabled, or watching something in windows media player). And then they mysteriously stopped when I upgraded my CPU.
