Me and a mate had an idea for dealing with the fire bug problem:

Give pyros a club where they get to burn stuff in a safe, supervised environment. Catch is, they have to register as a pyro, if they don't register they don't get to get their rocks off burning cool stuff.

That way, pyros get their jollies without hurting anyone *and* they all put their names on a list so that if they ever do slip up the cops always have somewhere to start.

I think it should be advertised and gov funded.

they made a mistake when they dump the water, the trees aren't on fire they are just RED in colour, if you look closely it's an easy mistake to make from up in a helicopter, but it's a bit of a waste of water :(

Yeah, but also don't forget people would join just for the fun of burning who otherwise wouldn't have lit a fire in the first place. This could potentially create even more work for police. Good idea, but like all good ideas there are pro's and con's.

There maybe just needs to be higher penalties, or maybe even a base penalty and then for every life/property/car/asset lost in the fire is an extra penalty.

Unfortunately there is no way to stop people lighting fires. All we can do is prepare.

It's our turn to loose 200 lives to a devastating bushfire? Fuck you, what a slap in the face to all who were affected by Black Saturday and to everyone in NSW. As if we take turns, these things happen and as a nation we rectify them (i.e. sending crews and resources from across the nation).

I was one of the fire fighters sent from NSW to Vic last year. Thanks for showing your support for me and every other member of the NSW RFS who VOLUNTEERED to go down to Vic and help.
