This is our first kill of HEROIC Warmaster Blackthorn (10-man) as a guild.

Guild: The Machine of Sylvanas-EU (Horde).

Kill date: 10th of January, 2012.

PoV: Zumzar - Fire Mage. Armory at http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/sylvanas/Zumzar/advanced

We used 2 tanks, 2 healers and 6 dps for this.

After a tumultuous couple of weeks, with yet another core player from The Machine quitting the game (Swizzi, our Warlock, legendary staff wielder and co-creator of the guild), we managed to kill HEROIC Warmaster Blackhorn on only 35 attempts.

This is a very interessting fight, and by far - in my opinion - the best Heroic encounter so far in DS. It is really a learn-by-doing encounter, and all we literally did (except for a few tactical changes) was to try it again and again.

We start off by starting on top of the ship, so we can start attacking asap, and then we jump down afterwards. As you can see in the video, we have 4 markers on the ship, with 2 people assigned to each position, and then those people would soak Twilight Barrage in their assigned area. It does get out of hand with all the fire, and in the end it's all about just soaking something, when you do NOT have the debuff.

Every time a sapper spawns, we have our DK tank drag the Sapper back to us. It can be snared, which is also very helpful. But like Another thing to note is that avoiding Charges is key on this fight, so if you're dying all over the place, that's probably why. DPSing, soaking and avoiding Charges requires practice. Not tactical tweaking. It is important though to note that quickly after every Twilight Onslaught, the mobs Charge, so spread out fast!

In Phase 2, we didn't have much of a tactic, as this was our first time ever seeing Phase 2, and we still managed to kill it, so obviously the challenge is Phase 1. But our approach was to just keep it casual, kinda ignoring the new debuff, and spread in a circle around the boss, maximum 20 yards away from him (to be able to dodge Shockwave better). It worked out brilliantly and, as you can see, resulted in a kill.

From a Fire Mage point of view, this fight is a lot of fun. Sadly, it again relies on good or bad RNG with Combustion, and being able to spread Combustions to the two adds for insane damage in Phase 1, and again spreading Combustion in Phase 2 to both Warmaster and Goriona. In my video I spread Combustions at these points @ 00:38, 02:40 & 04:10. Other than that, it's all about keeping up 3x LB, whilst single-target prioritizing the drakes in Phase 1. I might also add that I added a Power Aura specificly for this fight, so I could track the Twilight Barrage debuff. When you see my Flamestriking, Dragon's Breathing etc., it's only me fishing for Impact procs.

Another thing you see my doing is putting up LB on the Drakes when they fly above me in Phase 1. This is also very important. You might see me Arcane Blasting the Sappers at certain points in the fight, when nothing else is alive. I do this to get a Stolen Time stack, since it has 100 % on AB, and only 50 % on FB.

On an ending note, may I just apologize for my poor performance in the start of P2. It was our first time in P2, and I was more concerned with the boss not being in the right position, a tank being dead and so on.

Ventrilo: Yes, for the entire fight. Sorry for myself being a bit low and in-game sounds being that loud, but my new headset didn't seem to be recording my outgoing very well, so I had to crank it all up. I'll try and fix it for my next video.

WoL from the kill: http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/uct4v4tvm7osmw68/?s=1929&e=2345 - I ranked #15 of Fire Mages at the time of the kill.

Songs: The songs are listed at the end credits, in order of appearance. *edit* Obviousy the machine song is the last song and not Imperial March. *edit*

  • I cant download your UI :-(

    Can you update it?

  • @MrNicolaai Erh, what are you talking about? Of course you can download it. I just tested it again. Remember to update all of the addons with Curse Client or similar after downloading it, and following the instructions in the Readme.

  • Do u use Glyph of Living Bomb or not?

  • @aisxylos No.

  • @ZumzarWoW

    Wouldnt it help a lot?

  • @aisxylos Hm. I haven't tested it, but I guess it would help a lot in P1. I doubt it's worth it in the long run, considering P2 is pretty long as well, with only 1 target.

  • @DjAlexMetall Not really, no. Feel free to facebook me. Rasmus Soeby. Bye.

  • Zumzar is fat IRL

  • @boomjerry Any class is good dps these days. Blizzard has succesfully, almost, balanced the game in regards to DPS in PvE. But if you'd want a definite DPS class, choose one; Rogue, Warlock, Mage, Hunter.

  • @boomjerry There are several mage guides available all over the internet.
