Cartoons before PC ! IIRC, this is a takeoff of F-Troop. Well, at least the white guys (rats, foxes, wolverines..whatever the hell they are supposed to be..!) don't end up victorious.

What was the 60's cartoon show that had a character open their mouth real wide and blast out a sound? It may have been in the opening credits, but I cannot find the cartoon show.
Wow. I went looking for this cartoon I remembered to get a laugh(and I did!), but now I'm sitting here pondering all the racial and social stereotypes in it. I completely identified with the Gophers back then, and now too. I always thought of them as kids, pulling pranks and getting away with stuff over the adults. To a kid, it was having fun and staying outside and playing, but to the Gophers, it was being free. Really funny stuff, and thanks for posting!!
I have to agree, kids these days have no idea what good cartoons are...thank God we grew up in that wonderful era! Although I love Family guy, you have to admit it's very offensive and totally irreverent...which if you think about it, is sometimes what we need, good old, down to earth, silliness in which every race, creed and nationality is slandered equally...lol.
My favorite character was the Sgt. He really a decent guy who just had to follow orders from his idiot Col. He even commented at times that they should just leave the Gophers be. And at the end of every episode he'd give the audience a knowing wink and smile and said: "Be watching for our next episode. Bye now!" Clearly he was meant to represent the sympathetic-but-felt-powerless -to-do- anything-about-it "White" Character.
It was pointed out to me that the voice/face inspiration for Sgt Okey Loma was John Wayne. Yup, I can see that; but when I was growing up I thought he was based on Forrest Tucker of F Troop (voice reminded me of him, though I think these were made before F Troop..._)
