This is kind of part 2 to the video I did on replacing a distributor on an Acura Integra. Whenever you replace a distributor on an engine like I did in that video you will also need to reset the ignition timing. I did my best to show you the operation in real time but the camera really didn't like the strobing light so I'm sorry I wasn't able to get you a better picture of that.

The most important thing to remember with this is to read the procedure before you get started, if not you may perform it incorrectly and as a result set the timing incorrectly.

  • Hi Eric, if I take my distributor off and put it back on supposedly where it was, do I need to check the timing? Many thanks!

  • @alcor4ever If you mark it before you remove it no, just line the marks back up and you should be fine.

  • Good stuff man! this helped me alot. thanks

  • I have just now realized that after 2 Honda accords that every time I set my timing that I have used the single mark instead of the 3 marks. The thing is my car ran but I did get a slight misfire and that issue left me stumped. The moral of my story READ and understand the information. Eric I'm trying to set my timing in the accord 4cyl. but I have turned my dist. all the way to advance and I still can't reach the 3 marks. I'm think my mechanical timing could be off, what do you suggest.

  • Hey Eric!

Thanks ALOT for this! It's a huge contribute to the people!

    Now, I have a question if I may, I own a '92 civic with a D16A7.

Recently My car suddenly died on me, after I parked it on the same day.

After many checks, I have come to know that my coil is faulty.

Now I have a new dizzy and I want to make this adjustment, but I don't know how these marks look like on this engine, and where they are, because the engine is different a bit.

can you help me out with this please?

    Thanks, Denis.

  • Nice one piece headlights man!

  • Is the timing mark always in the same place on older Honda's? If so, what is the mark on the flywheel for? My 93 Accord has marks there and I thought those were for setting up the timing.

  • Lol

  • Hey Eric, big fan! I have a 74 Chevy Nova with a 250 straight six. I changed out the vacume advance and now the car barely runs. Can I just mess with the timming until it sounds right or do I have to use a timing light? Thanks.

  • Eric you are the best teacher I've had in my life, if it weren't for you i'd be flipping burgers instead of working as a mechanic.

  • Hey Eric, nice video! I have a 1998 nissan frontier 4 cyl, I pulled out the oil pump and the distributor after I put it back together and test drive the truck and it feels the rpm are too high! Do I need to adjust the distributor co'z I dont have the timing light?
