Gomorra è un film drammatico del 2008, basato sul best-seller di Roberto Saviano Gomorra, vincitore del Gran Premio della Giuria e del premio Arcobaleno Latino (dedicato alla memoria di Gillo Pontecorvo) al 61° Festival di Cannes.

Ha trionfato agli European Film Awards 2008 ottenendo cinque riconoscimenti su cinque nomination, fra cui i premi al miglior film e alla miglior regia.

E' il film candidato dall'Italia per entrare nella cinquina del Oscar 2009. L'ingresso nella cinquina dei miglior film stranieri sarà deciso dai giurati dell'Academy Award nel mese di gennaio ed appare ancora più probabile dopo il successo del film agli Oscar europei (EFA).

Il film è stato diretto da Matteo Garrone, il quale ha anche collaborato alla scrittura della sceneggiatura assieme a Maurizio Braucci, Ugo Chiti, Massimo Gaudioso e all'autore del romanzo Roberto Saviano; l'opera, prodotta dalla Fandango di Domenico Procacci insieme a Rai Cinemaè stata realizzata con il contributo del Ministero dei Beni Culturali e Ambientali - Dipartimento dello Spettacolo e con il supporto di Media Programme della Comunità Europea.

Il film è uscito nel circuito cinematografico italiano il 16 maggio 2008. Nel primo weekend di programmazione è stato il film più visto in Italia, con un incasso di 1.825.643 euro[4]. A fine ottobre 2008 il film raggiunge quota 10.112.985 euro.

Gomorrah (Gomorra in Italian) is a 2008 hyperlink crime film directed by Matteo Garrone, based on the book by Roberto Saviano. It deals with crime and the Camorra in Naples and Caserta.

The film weaves together five different stories: Don Ciro (Gianfelice Imparato) is a discreet middleman, responsible for paying the families of prisoners, who finds his loyalties tested as the clan leadership is threatened; Toto (Salvatore Abruzzese) is a 13-year-old boy who falls in with a criminal gang after he hides a gun from the police; Roberto (Carmine Paternoster) is a graduate who becomes slowly disillusioned with his charismatic boss Franco (Toni Servillo) as a result of his new job in toxic waste management; Pasquale (Salvatore Cantalupo) is a haute couture tailor who puts his life in danger when he accepts a job training Chinese competitors; and Marco (Marco Macor) and Ciro (Ciro Petrone) are two cocky wannabe gangsters who find a stash of weapons and decide to make a name for themselves.

The movie was premiered in North America at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was nominated for the Palme d'Or and won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. It won the Ari-Zeiss Award at the Munich Film Festival. The film was chosen by the National Association of Cinemagraphic Industries to represent Italy in contention for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards. The official list of Oscar nominated films will be released on January 22, 2009. Gomorra won the European Film 2008 best film award in Copenhagen on 6 December 2008.
