@flexan4o recall that this movie was made 20 years BEFORE the prequels. Sir Ian MacDairmid had no idea what young Palpatine would have sounded like.

if you want to make it a continuity issue, recall how badly the Sith lightning messed him up in Ep. 3. Sith powers degrade your body, which is why he was trying to find a way to prolong his life. so actually, yes, the 20 years would have degraded his vocal chords badly.

in the first German bookversion of the old StarWars Episodes they really call him "Kaiser" and the call the force " die Kraft " ( = power ) not the " Macht" ... and I believe the empire is the "Reich" and not the " Imperium "

Damals waren synchronisetre Filme richtig gut. Kaum Qualitätsverlust. Heute ist das teiwleise furchtbar und man muss ihn im Originalton gucken. Ein Hoch auf die Deutsche Sprache!
