I think I prefer the first method you did and this one. I'm very familiar with sow up method because I use it for zipping up my hand knitted stuff in the past but it is very slow as you have to too tight or too loose, as you already mentioned in your video.

@BondiBeachGirl hey there im not sure if you can get this kind of big needle in australia?? have you looked where you buy your yarn?? it would probably be there or at any craft store oyu have around you.....your other option is to see if you can find them online!
