The voices of Fred Cusick (broadcaster) and Johnny Peirson (color commentator), as well as the play of Bobby Orr (and the rest of the Big, Bad Bruins!), brought New England hockey fans a tremendous amount of excitement, joy, and pride. Thanks for the unforgettable memories!
@MrTehChopper But if you want specific skills, I could tell you that Gretzky was a better goal scorer, a better playmaker and passer, a better forechecker, had better anticipation to break plays...
@MrTehChopper I'm happy to educate you. You cannot really judge a player in team sport by individual skills, you judge him on how he helps the team win. For example, would you take Ovechkin and Semin on your team right now, they are highly skilled players. What Gretzky could do better than Orr is use his skillset to help his team win, he has been awarded the MVP more than anyone in pro sports.
@Irato99 Explain to me, I'm here to get educated, what could Gretzky do on the ice that Bobby Orr could not do ? What skill did Gretzky possess that Orr was lacking ? Skating ? Shooting ? Stickhandling ? Blocking shots ? Back checking ? Speed ? Stamina ? Toughness ? Clutch ? Amazing Hand eye co-ordination ? I'll give 1--> longevity of career. Gretzky wins that one. By 99's own admission he lasted a long time by avoiding the physical aspects of hockey. I agree with him.
@MrTehChopper Orr could not do everything Gretzky could, how can you say that. Winning 8 straight MVPs, 9 in total (that's more than Orr's Norris total), winning the scoring race by 70pts, or having 100 more pts than his best teammate, play during 20 years...
@Irato99 Gretzky was spectacular, no argument here. Irrefutable----> Orr could anything Gretzky could do. Gretzky could not do what Orr did. Think about it for a moment. Take a deep breath and rationally consider this : Orr was every bit as dominant offensively as Gretzky, while winning the Norris every year at the other end of the ice. Gretzky didnt so much as poke check an opponent in 20 yrs. Imagine Gretzky playing D. Ridiculous. Orr did both. 80's was no check. Wide open.
@MrTehChopper Orr's defensive partner actually had to play defense. The Oilers were an expansion team when Gretzky arrived, he won the Hart with no HallOfFamers around him. The record holder for goals and points in a season before Gretzky was a super offensive talent playing with Orr. Last Oiler to win a scoring title ---> well we all know...
@Irato99 Orr's defensive partner scored 55 goals in over 1000 NHL games. Tell me again how blessed Orr was with super offensive talent around him. The Bruins were SoSo when Orr arrived. No cup in 30 years. Gretzky played with a traveling All Star team. Half that damn team is in the Hall Of Fame. Messier won an Oiler Cup after Gretzky left. Bruins didnt win a cup for 40 yrs after Orr left. Last Bruin to win a scoring title ---> Orr.
@MrTehChopper Talking about the more goals against stat, do you know that the top 10 players are all HallOfFamers, maybe it's because these players had of lot of ice time... As for the plus/minus stat, let's face it, Orr had a short career with a really good team, you can't really compare to Gretzky's full career, if you take only Edmonton's years it's pretty similar.
@Irato99 Orr played D... D-men don't forecheck bro.

@Irato99
You're nuts. Bobby is far and away the best hockey player to have ever strapped on a pair of skates.
He played the game as it is meant to be, and excelled at doing so beyond belief.
