"What The Waves Tell Me" was inspired by the waves at Lake Ontario and by Indian Raga. The cello is tuned to the overtone series of B(+31 cents). Only open strings and natural harmonics are employed, therefore the piece is entirely in just intonation. It is approximately 18 minutes in duration, and is divided into two YouTube videos. It was composed in Kingston, ON and completed in Hartford, CT in 2008.

The video is of the premiere performance by Rachel Arnold of Boston. It was performed at the College Music Society Northeast Conference, where it won the most outstanding student composition award.
