Minimal Cinema | MANIFESTO

Minimalism expressed itself in the most important Art fields (literature; music; architecture; painting; sculptures; design) but never involved visual communication (cinema; television; etc).

Minimal Cinema is the natural answer to the audiovisual production system.

Minimal Cinema is a rebel movement, against classic styles mechanically actualized by directors, producers and distributors.

Minimal Cinema's vital sap is filmic innovation.

A Minimalistic author is a breakthrough figure. Thanks to technology's constant innovation, he benefits from new production mechanisms.

Like architectural minimalism, Minimal Cinema is founded on the following concept: "Less is more" (Ludwig Mies van der Rohe).

Any Minimal Film, in acquisition stages, revolves around the director -- operator, surrounded by a maximum of two people (with the exception of the artistic cast).

Any Minimal Film never goes off the budget; everything is set in the beginning, thanks to an attentive initial planning and to the humbleness of the minimal author.

Any Minimal Film considerably lowers productions costs compared to traditional films.

The minimalistic author has no Ego and puts all himself in the accomplishment of his piece of work.

The minimalistic author, as compared to contemporary directors, worries about producing filmic material in a smooth and easy way, achieving very high visual/narrative levels.

The minimalistic author is well rounded, capable to tell a story and make it real, visible. Thanks to his technical capability he's able to avoid redundant and obsolete professional figures.

The minimalistic author has as a primary goal to minimize production costs, using modern and versatile digital equipment.

The minimalistic author is able to realize a film in solitude and lightness.

The minimalistic author never puts fame as one off his goals. As a contrast to production mechanisms on a small and large scale he never worries about his visibility. His, is an act of love for the public.

The minimalistic author doesn't put distribution in movie theaters, home video or television as his primary goal. If there's absence of distribution, the minimalistic author will bound himself to show his work in a totally free way, exploiting the global communications system, like the internet.

The minimalistic author won't depend on production or distribution channels. He's an independent author to all intents and purposes and benefits from free creativity and expressions never dictated by the market.

The minimalistic author worries about overthrowing provincialism and creating appreciable work on a global scale.

Minimal Cinema is the natural consequence of an impoverishment of cinema and audiovisual communications in general, coming from poor technical preparation and a total absence of artistic feeling from most of the "authors" oriented in a profit making business.

Minimal Cinema is a heaven of peace for its authors, free from censure and prejudice.

Truth is all it matters. Any Minimal Film is a genuine and sincere piece of work, brutal in its realism and always pointing to the spectator reflections, who was by now used to trifling and consoling movies.

Small thing that happen in life are the keystone of the diegesis, and to them is left the duty to supply reflection cues on life's biggest topics.

Minimal Cinema is founded on parataxis, image semantics and their incisiveness, eluding the didactic use of words.

Minimal Cinema doesn't produce entertainment, it doesn't lead to recreation.

Minimal Cinema educates one's reflection.
