A review of the Smashing Pumpkins 1998 release, Adore. This is their first album after Jimmy Chamberlain was fired and features a heavy electronic element to the music that wasn't really seen in previous Pumpkins' releases. Decent album, 7/10. COMMENT, RATE, SUBSCRIBE!

  • So...To Sheila (Track 1), Once Upon A Time (Track 5), Tear (Track 6), and Crestfallen (Track 7) are the "back half of the album", but Appels + Oranjes (Track 8), and Pug (Track 9) are the "front half"? Turn off shuffle before you criticize the tracklist.

Also, using a drum machine doesn't make it "electronic"...most of this album is guitar and piano, the only song I would actually consider "electronic" is Appels + Oranjes...and please don't ever insult this album by comparing it to Kid A.

  • @brandonmccool I never specifically listed those songs as being on either "half". What I meant by that was the general sound of the songs. Yes, "To Sheila" is a song that is driven by acoustic guitar, but the song right after it, "Ava Adore" is driven by MOSTLY electronic sounds. And I would say, in my OPINION (cause that's all this is) that the first half has generally electronic sounds for me, while the back half is full of more piano and acoustic sounds. Obviously you disagree, and that's OK.

  • Adore was commercial suicide. The pumpkins were at the top of the world, and could have kept putting out the same old shit.

But for true pumpkins fans... This is arguably there best album.

    Nothing like gish btw....

I disagree, the balance is amazing.

    Dude stop bashing zeitgeist... Rlly.

  • Thanks for the comment! I just find the balance to be kind of off, just me. And no, I will bash Zeitgeist until the day I die, I cannot stand that album. But again, that's just my opinion.

  • The reason it all changed was because his mother died right before they released it. You can really hear that in the music if you try hard.

  • But I shouldn't ahve to try hard to understand where he's a coming from. A good musician will make that known to the audience through the music. Thanks for the comment!!
