I finally got around to replacing the Mosfets in my SSTC board. It's a W. Nachefski, self-tuning (feedback) design (SSTC V1.2 2005). My favorite SSTC board (that I have built), very versatile, very simple to work on. Just playing around for a bit with it - as it's been out of commission for a few years. The secondary is 4" x 20" with a stainless steel sphere 8" topload. There is a 4" grounded aluminum disk mounted above the topload (varies between 10-20 inches from the sphere in the video). I generally do this when using a SSTC topload with no breakout point. I didn't really crank it up - as I said, I just replaced the Mosfets & I wanted to leave it in working condition :) Nothing too exciting, but it's fun to play with. btw- the snap you hear at the end of the video is my lowly 1.5A fuse blowing (I usually run it with a 3.5A fuse, but I wasn't taking any chances with the new transistors). I'll probably get the urge to crank it up, so I'll be sure to film it so you can hear me swear up a storm when I blow them out again :)
