Every filmmaker dreams of winning an Academy Award, but Luke Matheny actually has. Discover Luke's path to Oscar glory and hear his thoughts on how to win.
Luke Matheny is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker, writer and actor. His short film "God of Love" -- a comedy about a lounge-singing darts champion who receives a package of love-inducing darts -- won the 2011 Academy Award for Best-Live Action Short. The film was also winner of the gold medal at the 2010 Student Academy Awards; special jury recognition at Aspen ShortsFest; as well as first prize and the King Award for Screenwriting at the NYU First Run Film Festival. "God of Love" was Matheny's thesis at NYU's prestigious graduate film program.
Matheny has also co-written a feature-length coming-of-age comedy, "A Birder's Guide to Everything," with Sundance-award-winning director Rob Meyer. The project is currently in pre-production. Matheny's next project is a modern update of Don Quixote entitled "Ron Quixote."

Luke is very right about Oscars... the film I scored, Dragonboy, didn't win sh*t in all the "indie" type film festivals but instead won Gold in the Student Academy. Weird... I guess the oscars like that feel good family stuff. Stephen: but you already know this mr academy guy.

@WorldofWandag Absolutely. The Academy has its own preferences, which definitely seem to lean towards the tastes of old people. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Old people are cool.
