One of the great joys of my long life is that I got to hear and see Rubinstein perform live and in person. Being in his 80s gave him a depth of emotion (and technical skill) that I have not heard matched in any other pianist

I too had the joy of hearing Rubinstein play live - just once - and it was the great Schubert B flat sonata that he played so brilliantly. I think he was about 84 at the time. He was truly a great interpreter of Chopin, Beethoven AND Schubert
