  • Incredible that after years of listening to Lhevinne, Giles, Pogo and Chiffra there was still a unique way to play this - that really really is touching. Fantastic!!

  • As you all mention the different interpretations of this piece I'd like to say that there is no "best interpretation" for me.Gilels has the richest sound,Pogorelich the most individual, almost random approach,Richter the most powerful,Barere the fastest,Lhévinne the most poetic and elegant playing,Cziffra the most sportive version,Horowitz like always the most colorful one and Schmitt-Leonardy the most intelligent and transparent version

  • One of the most excellent performances of this piece I know

  • Pogorelich offers a very edgy motoric performance - this in contrast uses more pedal and provides greater sonority and coloring to the piece. Two very different - yet effective interpretations

  • Fair enough.

  • @Noshirm, I agree with you that there is no need to search for the new best interpretation of this piece. For me it's still Horowitz, but also Lhévinne who you mention gives the piece an elegant glance that you'll find nowhere else. On the other hand I find it surprising to discover that there are still pianists like S.-L. with own ideas and personality who are brave and intelligent enough to challenge the best of the best.

  • I just listened to Gilels, Pogorelich, Richter, Barere, Lhévinne, Cziffra and Horowitz and have to say that Schmitt-Leonardy is a thrilling alternative

  • this is absolutely my favourite interpretation. Lhévinne comes next, then Horowitz and Richter, then Gilels........

  • speechless...
