Give me a break... "Ain't No More Cane" is a traditional prison song from the American South. They all "knew" this song; they were all musicologists. Just because Danko called out the key he was playing it in doesn't mean he was teaching them the song.

No question he's teaching them the song. At :04 second he even tells Jerry what chord to play: "G."

The fact that, stoned as he is, he knows the lyrics and is even leading the rest of them with the melody and the non-verbal chorus. Also at the beginning, see how Jerry and Bob Weir are watching him to learn the chords to play it.

The song is a classic Texas blues titled "No More Cane on the Brazos" and refers to the brutal prison farms along the Brazos River, where inmates raised sugar cane under conditions of slavery. It's a little ironic that Danko, a Canadian (and obviously high out of his gourd) is teaching the song to Janis Joplin, a Texan and a blues singer.

Always been in love with Rick Danko but damn, even Janis is lookin at him like...man you are just wreked! A nice little piece of musical history though....or maybe just history.
