There's a ship lies rigged and ready in the harbor
Tomorrow for old England she sails
Far away from your land of endless sunshine
To my land full of rainy skies and gales
And I shall be aboard that ship tomorrow
Though my heart is full of tears at this farewell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell

I've heard there's a wicked war a-blazing
And the taste of war I know so very well
Even now I see the foreign flag a-raising
Their guns on fire as we sail into hell
I have no fear of death, it brings no sorrow
But how bitter will be this last farewell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell

Though death and darkness gather all about me
My ship be torn apart upon the seas
I shall smell again the fragrance of these islands
And the heaving waves that brought me once to thee
And should I return home safe again to England
I shall watch the English mist roll through the dale

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell

  • I was England and in the US AIr Force when this song came out. Every time I hear it now I am taken back to the years I spent in England. I have so many wonderful memories of that time. I was 20, I had just buried my dad, and I was going to work and this song came on the radio at the time and instantly became my number 1 favorite. It still is to this day! There are not enough words to exxpress my appreciation and gratitude for you posting this. Let me just say THANK YOU!

  • Oh my! I haven't added something to my favorites for so very long...

  • I'm still watching this video after a year or so it came back up. Love it! Great song and great video. robtrb from Texas.

  • This song always reminds me of my father. A hard and brutal man, matched only by his love an dedication to his family. Hard to figure out when he was alive. I only cry when I think of how beautiful and selfless he was. Thanks dad, for the security, love and memories.

  • well done in compiling this video with the song!

  • Roger was born in Kenya. But he also lived briefly in the then Rhodesia, down the road from my dad's house in Salisbury, many years ago...

  • @litwriter100 Sorry I was in a mood.

  • @litwriter100 Thanks for your comment or feedback but remember it's only a homemade YouTube video made from simple editing tools and a limited amount of film clips.

  • @fabulousgerro661 Oh, don’t get into a huff. It was a joke. Yes, it’s a beautiful song and the up-loader did a great job putting clips from a movie about the sea and sailors to enhance it. Unfortunately, the clips he found don’t exactly correlate well with the lyrics in spots, that’s all. No one thinks otherwise.

  • It's a beautiful song. Unfortunately sick thinking will always inhabit the few.

  • @teslashieldit Well, it’s a beautiful song and great film clips, and I thank you for putting it up. However, shouldn’t it be a young lady watching longingly while the ship prepares to voyage out rather than a boy? The song lyrics don’t seem appropriate for the latter, not even if the boy is the sailor’s/singer’s son. .
