The Capital 1980 - a surreal poem by Melissanthi in which the city appears like an aquarium, complete with whales, divers and plankton.
(This may well be a reference to murky atmosphere of a polluted city, but I have taken it literally in this video-collage).
The translation is by Diana Maynard and the music was composed by D W Solomons.
This performance took place at Cross Street Chapel on 27 February 2009, with D W Solomons (alto) and Alessandro Balsimini (guitar)
(please excuse the cough from the audience!)

The score, published by Musik Fabrik, is available from

  • My friend. You are making wilder and wilder videos. You are becoming a master. I love the fish. This poem brought to me in song with your magnificent guitar playing has brought a start to my new week that I can not even describe. I can not wait to enjoy more of your shinning talent. God bless you and your family.
