I've been tempted to try this but am a bit scared off by the troubling reports of cancer it can supposedly cause....love to know your thoughts on it. One seller explained to me that he thought it might be from people drinking it too hot and I'm guessing burning and then causing damage to the mouth/throat/tongue. Am going to check out your link as well. Thanks for sharing.

@curiosidadesextrano As far as I know, those reports are not conclusive whatsoever. There have also been reports to show that mate helps to prevent cancer. I think it has mostly to do with people drinking it extremely hot, as such has been similarly found in cancer research with tea in China, Persia, etc... We've known of mate for 500 years now, yet we don't read about the indigenous peoples suffering from throat cancer. Like all natural plants, the govts are going after them...
