@gregpent...... type "betting on chess" into google (without the quotes) you will get nearly a million hits...people bet on and gamble on chess(you seem not to know what your talking about)...just as people bet on and gamble on poker....when i play poker i bet on my poker skill...some players just gamble...would you ban online chess? there are sites you can play for money! just google "online chess for money"...chess is the same unskilled/ impatient players lose money just like poker

Poker is a game of chance. Being skilful by monitoring peoples body language and playing a strategy does not change the fact that poker is a game of luck and chance :)
Its whether the significance of skill is greater than the significance of chance that makes a game skilful.

So Phil Ivey isn't the most skilled No Limit Hold Em player in the world, rather he's the luckiest player in the world.
Got ya.

Not quite my friend. Actually I make my money as an affiliate and a poker player. Fortunately I'm in a position where I don't have to work.
And even though I would make more money if the bill was passed I still believe its more a game of luck.
Blackjack has a strategy but its still a game of luck :)
luck: the seemingly chance happening of events that affect someone; fortune; fate
skill: great ability or proficiency; expertness that comes from training, practice, etc.
Let people decide!

Obviously you're a losing fish.

i'm afraid poker is not a game of skill. it cannot be classified as such. the skill involved is letting impatient players lose all theri money stupidly.
now chess is a game of skill and you dont see people gambling on that because their not skilful enough to win ;)
This is a topic of much debate right now. There was a study by the University of Hamburg and they found that once over 1000 hands were played, which takes about 14 hours of online play, the effects of skill outweighed the effects of chance. They showed that a majority of hands did not end in a showdown meaning it did not matter who had the best cards, but rather who bet like they did.
