Welcome to Saf-T-Swim! Here you'll find information about our Long Island swim school, swimming lessons, events and specials, informative tips, articles and links to enlighten you about all aspects of swimming and water safety. For thousands of Long Islanders, swimming is an integral and enjoyable part of family activity; after all, we live on a beautiful island surrounded by water -- the perfect place to discover the joy, health benefits and wonders of swimming.

As enjoyable as swimming is, it also needs to be taken very seriously. One look at recent drowning statistics makes this point very clear. Drowning is the leading cause of death in children between the ages of 1 and 5. Residential swimming pools account for 60 to 90% of drownings of children under 4, half of which occur at the child's own home. Children under 4 are also most likely to drown in hot tubs, spas and swimming pools. Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of injury-related death for children 1 to 14. Statistics like these clearly demonstrate that knowing how to swim is not a luxury, but a necessity and a parental responsibility.

In 1984, when my wife Susan and I began the first Saf-T-Swim school in Bayshore, Long Island, we wanted to combine our love of swimming with respect for water safety and knowledge. Happily, that simple concept has helped Saf-T-Swim grow into New York's #1 swim school, with ten locations; East Meadow, Westbury, Oceanside, Bellmore, Deer Park, Commack, Smithtown, Bohemia, Coram and Riverhead. Each is staffed by dedicated professionals who teach the art of swimming with great care, sensitivity and a wonderful sense of fun and excitement.

Swimming safety and enjoyment is central to Saf-T-Swim's overall philosophy. We're proud members of the United States Swim School Association (USSSA), which represents quality schools devoted to aquatic education for lifelong safety, fun and health. You can find out more about the USSSA by visiting www.usswimschools.org.

We look forward to meeting you as your child begins their "learn to swim" experience. It's a skill that provides a lifetime of fun, health benefits, and great memories for the entire family.
