@zecamalho in the U.S., buying from local small farms is gaining popularity. The number of farms has actually increased in my state (Massachusetts) in the last few years. Many people are willing to pay higher prices for their produce, especially if it is organic. Hopefully this trend will take root in Alentejo also.

@pbhello They sing the soul of the people of Alentejo, a portuguese region in the south of the country.
It's a region very poor, mainly with old people, ancient country workers. Today there's almost no work at all, 'cause no one is no longer interested in agriculture. Sad, very sad.

@joraga2000 nunca tinha ouvido tal coisa. no entanto também sou um leigo nessa matéria. mas sou alentejano e digo-te o seguinte... estes gajos até podiam estar vestidos à Elvis Presley a cantar numa casino de Las Vegas que eu chorava à mesma, tal como a diferença entre estes gajos e o meu avô que ainda vai para o campo com 85 anos de idade desde criança é que o meu avô não sabe cantar.
