I love both versions of this song. A working class hero in my definition is one who is stuck in a position that they are defined to and can not escape it. So they accept it and never level up in the social ladder.

the john lennon version is better, but ik like the drums and the electric gitar in the greenday version.
but at the end of the song, when the lyrics is "if you want to be a hero, well just follow me." ; it is sung by john lennon, not by billy joe armstrong. bur great song, especially the lyrics

i was talking about green day... ive never heard the john lennon one

that is just a cover of the true meaning of this song. Lennon did not sing this song just for the people of darfur. Listen to the lyrics. If you still cant figure out the meaning then honestly.....

what is a working class hero? I absoulutely love this song tho!

There's another video of this song with Green Day singing it. The song's about helping people in Darfur. You'll get the message as soon as you watch it.

At 1:20 it says "...When they've tortured and scared you for twenty hard years..."
It's actually "...When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years..."
Great video, Theres only a few working class hero lyric vids on youtube, I like this version the best 5/5 stars :D
