Holdsworth - "Just for the Furious"
Utalising some of the concepts used by Allan let us rescue the old jazz tune Stella by Starlight from itself;
Playing in any number of theoretical keys at once;
Replacing melodic and boring chords and scales with something more intelligent

  • Within one second, I start to snicker at this. Pure joy for this Berklee composition graduate slash Holdsworth devotee...

  • "...jazz standard should be...just endless solos."

    Spit my Coke out here at work. This is awesome.

  • I dont know whats funnier this guy's videos or the responding comments from jazzers who are completely devoid of any trace of a sense of humour what so ever. Brilliant!

  • You are so right. When he does the demo to show the difference and the at the end says, "Could you hear the difference? It was pretty subtle.". I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

  • you're a genius.

  • Standards have their place in jazz! I consider them a training ground for improvisation. So if you want to sound like Holdsworth or McLaughlin then I would suggest you start out by learning the standards and evolve into a more modern style. Standards tend to have more complicated chord progressions that are a great training ground. Learn how not to get lost in the progression first then get your legatto on!

  • You did not get it! Watch it again!

  • Couldnt agree moore! Ignorance is Blisssss...

  • poor Allan
