Nick Jonas is LEAVING his Jonas Brothers, OMG! New band called Nick Jonas and The Administration

Yes, it's true: Nick Jonas is stepping out on his own. He's got a new band called Nick Jonas & The Administration, which will kick off a 14-city tour starting Jan. 2, and a new album due out Feb. 2.

But it does not — repeat not — mean the end of The Jonas Brothers, Nick tells PEOPLE. "This is something that can definitely co-exist with the Jonas Brothers," he says of his new band.

Still, performing without his brothers will be strange, the 17-year-old singer-songwriter admits. "I've never really stood center stage before," he says. "It's going to be different but I'm looking forward to it."
