@FixxxeR208 I am not deabating that this has become the adapted meaning over several centuries. However the words roots are "vik" Old Norse for bay or inlet and "vikja" which is a swift movement. As time progressed going "viking" (used as a verb) was the act of exploring inlets and either pillaging or trading with the inhabitants found there. The men who pursued this vocation were known as "vikingr", as time moved on "viking" simply described any northern sea faring man.

@Daegen7 "viking" roughly means of being a conqueror or, in some other hypothesis as "sea warrior".

Bit like Vikings? man, beside the Icelanders, your ancestors were one of the most succesfull group of vikings ever, you kicked the Irish off a whole bunch of islands and took em over permanently. Beside that your music is better than Björk. You guys rock!

this is a very talented band. love their music.

@Wumasi actually your a little incorrect in this "Viking" is an action, in other words the name for act of raiding would be to go viking. Later on it was adapted as a name of the people who committed this act.
