Background: This video will teach you how to use OPL v.8, and rather than making two videos, I decided to make one master video that shows you how to boot games of of USB, but also how to do it over the network using a crossover cable.
Software:
USBExtreme can be found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14773/Game%20Stuff/Console/PS2/USBExtreme.exe
USBUtil 2.0 can be found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14773/Game%20Stuff/Console/PS2/USBUtil%20v2.0%20Full%...
Latest OPL website manual is here: http://opl.psx-scene.com/
Download link for OPL v.8: http://psx-scene.com/forums/460968-post1.html
I am going to make some basic assumptions here:
1) You know what OPL or OpenPS2Loader is.
2) You already have FMCB installed.
3) This PS2 modding business is not new to you and you are ready to "jump" straight in.
If you are not proficient with PS2 modding, then that is OK. I'm here to help. As a start, I highly encourage you to check out my PS2 playlist link below. Here are videos that will teach you how to install FMCB, add programs to FMCB, how to setup usb and SMB with OPL .7, and more!

Troubleshooting area:
1) My game doesn't work on USB for OPL V.8?
Answer: Try the network option. If that doesn't work, then try OPL V.7 USB and/or network to see if that helps your cause. Some games are funny like this.
2) I am sharing a game folder on Windows PC and its not showing up?
Answer: Try to put the shared folder on a FAT32 partition and see if that works. Users claim that NTFS work, but I have not gotten it to work with OPL V.8. If you know how to make NTFS work, lease a comment.
3) What is a crossover cable and where can I buy one?
Answer: Crossover cable is a way to establish a direct connection between two PCs or two devices. You can find real cheap ones at monoprice.com. See my monoprice video here:
4) Should I use a primary or logical partition on my USB hard drive to hold my games?
Answer: Use a primary partition, formatted to FAT32 with the USBExtreme software. Games installed to a logical partition and FAT32 will not be recognized by OPL. You can still play those games through SMB over the network for games on a logical partition formatted with FAT32, but you cannot and WILL NOT play them through USB.

Update for NTFS (added on 6-12-11):
Comment by IBonaCl:
" You can use NTFS, but you have to put your username and password to the Open PS2 Loader settings which you use at your own computer. Notice: Your user account must have a password or else it won't work. Also you have to add your user to the shared folder's sharing permissions like seen at 5:00. This because NTFS is more secure than Fat32. "
I'm having another problem. I have my ps2 directly connected to my lap top and followed all of the instructions. When I run the device on opl it loads and when it is done loading it comes up with a blank list. I might be using the wrong cable or not. Do I have to esr patch my games or do they have to have a specific name in order for them to appear?

@v2nikk Is it a crossover cable or ethernet cable? If you are using OPL, just make sure to rip games to a folder, share it, and then you should be good to go. See blog article too.

opl 0.8 freezes on the opl loading screen where the loading wheel at the bottom right just stops.

@v2nikk So it freezes before you can do a usb or SMB game?

I did everything yo said to do in this and the 0.7 tutorial, but my internet keeps disconnecting when i use OPL and I can never get past a green screen whenever I try to boot a game over network. Is there something else I missed?

@Oraclenexus2 Defrag the hard drive. My internet never disconnects? You are using a crossover cable to the PS2, and wireless to the router for internet?
