people think the shotokan way of kicking is bad because it doesn't involved leaving the ground in some kind of 1940 degree roundhouse face splitting ax kick of shinku doom. If it's not in the media then it's "bad" to alot of people. Obviously they've never been hit by a real shotokan student's roundhouse before, which is a shame because it'd shut them up and their ignorant assumptions rather quickly.

The reason most shotokan people don't enter kyokushinkai tournaments is because the just stand there and pound each other;s bodies with no real thought of body shifting or strategies. Also, shotokan punches to the head where I don't believe kyokushi people do.

this is the artistic style of "trowing" mawashi geri.On kumite ,or when you give mawashi geri at full force you will se how easy is to pivot right ,i can to do in my shoes ,boots.I repeat ,he is just showing how a mawashi should be "thrown".
A mawashi i ,ushiro geri and others can pe very devastating if they are thrown in the ehad ,torso ,or the back part of the leg . i beated the crap out of 2 kiokushinkay students ,just reliyng on brute force (legs and hands).Kiokushin is just a sport now.

LMAO @ some of the comments about Shotokan this, Kyokushin that. Why can't we be a fan of Karate period.

@superlantis real fight = punches to the head

That's not quite true. It's a tendancy certainly in the west for Shotokan to be quite light however different regions and clubs have different standards. In afghanistan for example or iran or even in parts of japan Shotokan is practiced with full contact which results in strong well rounded fighters (less the constant threat of injury of course!).
I have 2 sensei from Iran in Shotokan and trust me, it's not 'light' at all :)

real fights . So when you fight in the street you ask your opponent. Please dont punch me in the face bcos I train Kyokushikai but please punch my cheast..? Be real people what we do on tatamis is a sport and not 100% related to when we train traditional karate.

yes it is a good kick, what you say is not wrong but he is showing the right "start" the rest comes with training. Important has he shows is to be "strong" and properly balanced on the standing foot....Remember nothing is easy to show in a short video

nothing personal against this man, but is this a good way to do mawashi geri?
what seems strange to me is the flicking back of the leg instead of kicking through, and no stepping in.
pivoting on the foot being good/not good is a different debate maybe, but that too,

It's an awesome technique when you have shoes on.

I'm not a Shotokan fan, but Lyoto Michida - i *hope* you know who i'm talkin' about - comes from this style. So, yes: Stotokan Karatekas *can* enter full contact tournements: they've just to train how to hit enemy.

hmm..you have quite the spelling..
dude explain to me why shotokan dont enter kyokushinkai tournaments or K1 tournaments?

Your not really aswering the question, so here's another one, why is the shotokan way of kicking so bad? or will you just ask me another question? Don't make such statements unless you can explain what you mean.
