I was sitting with my pen and notebook on a street corner in Oregon listening to live musicians waiting for the inspiration to write a poem. A path-train came to a stop and I looked up and saw a woman looking through the window. Our eyes met and locked for half a minute. No words were needed. The train took off, and even though we knew we'd never see each other again, we knew the importance of the moment. Our eyes exchanged gratitude for the much-needed mutual inspiration and this poem was birthed minutes before I was set to perform.
