I changed out the older vane type Ingersoll Rand 150BMP starter for a new Turbine type 150T starter (the left one in the first picture). It fits just the same, although I made a new end housing to allow for a cleaner connection to the 1.25" air line. Sounds different, and a little quieter than the old starter (right one in the first picture).

  • serial # breakdown sp060228096 sp=Southern Pines N.C where it was built 06=year 02=month 28=day of month 096=ninty sixth starter built that day.

  • Wow!

Thanks for the info, interesting to know.

I was told it came from a wrecked postal service tractor, a Mack. Didn't realize it was so new.

  • Nice machine work on that rear cover. Not nearly as loud as the 150BM vane starter. Have you ever heard an SS800? Scares everyone in the shop everytime we bench test one.

  • Thanks,

It is a lot quieter, but mostly the sound is not as irritating as the old 150 BMP.

I've seen some really big air starters at the local air starter shop, but haven't heard any of them run.
