It has come to my attention that the 25th Anniversay collection deleted several lines. Most noteably they removed Molly Grue's "damn you" when she first meets the unicorn. So I have uploaded this clip that shows the original scene for the purposes of comparison.

There are black frames at the end. This is something I did to keep YouTube from truncating the dialogue at the end.

  • "Unicorns are for beginnings," he said, "for innocence and purity, for newness. Unicorns are for young girls." Molly was stroking the unicorn's throat as timidly as though she were blind. She dried her grimy tears on the white mane. "You don't know much about unicorns," she said. (from the book by Peter S. Beagle)

  • "Where have you been? Damn you, where have you been?! Where were you twenty years ago? Ten years ago? Where were you when I was new…? How dare you come to me now, when I am THIS!”

Damn! Of all the scenes in this movie, this is one that I can vividly remember even after more than two decades. The bittersweet irony of finding something in your life when it is a little too late... :-(

  • @Aelflar or maybe it was meant to be interpeted as "children, this is how u must act when u are desperate and lonely"

  • They never should have removed the original scene!

Nobody should care SO MUCH about DAMN, at least she is using it correctly.

  • All scenes are undeleted in the most recent release (I belive it's on bluray too). In fact an option in the menu allows you to watch a "censored for little kids" type of version, and separately the full unedited version. At least that's what I read online. I don't actually have this movie myself.

  • You know, maybe this scene is meant to be interpreted as "it`s never too late for wishes to come true" and "being new and young are often a state of mind" rather than sad and depressing. If we take a leap of faith we realize this is Molly`s moment of closure and epiphany, of transformation. The unicorn came to her when it most mattered, when she (the unicorn) was needed, rather than wanted :)

  • This movie was made and released back when movie-makers and all those guys didn't give the kids of this age junk that turns ther brains into a bunch of mush. Back when movies had actual meanings and morals and weren't just provided for entertainment and (on the makers' part) profit.

  • When animation was still as powerful as poetry :)

  • Wow. Even just this small clip is as powerful to me now as it was when I was a little girl. What an amazing movie.

  • @TitoTheThird its called DRAMA! LOL

  • My brother is a full grown man in his 30's and till this day he tears up watching this scene. As do I. Now pass the tissue paper :'(

  • @TheEnviousdominous wow, poetic! :o
