A preview of my 2D RPG engine that will be in the same vein as Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore. Presently the enemies don't hurt you and collision doesn't fully work the way I'd like.

However, I do have a scripting engine in place for tiles and NPC's, a somewhat functional map editor with layers and collision editing with fast support (minus loading) of an unlimited size map. The dialogue system is somewhat working and there is only support for 1 player so far, with future support for 4 players on the XBox.

    if the scenario is made of tiles and the character moves always to the center of tiles (like Final Fantasy on the SNES) then you don't need complex collision techniques, only check if the next tile already contains an object or impassable terrain before allowing the movement. I can't appreciate in the video if the character stops always in the center of a tile or if it can stop anywhere.
