"Now that you've read all about your Smithy Granite machines, here's your chance to see one in action. This is our Granite 1324. Since we introduced this machine in 1996, it has become our most popular 3-in-1 machine tool, and there are some good reasons why. With the Granite, you'll have the three most essential metalworking tools, a lathe, milling machine, and a drill press, right in your own shop. You can build your own parts or restore and maintain the tools and equipment you already have. Turn just about any type of metal or plastic material you can think of. Cut right-hand and left-hand threads. Do taper turning, drill accurate holes, mill flat surfaces, cut grooves, slots or pockets. In fact, if you're the kind of hands-on, do-it-yourself person that likes to get in there and get things done, chances are, you can take a complete project from start to finish, and do it all with a Granite 1324. So what's the difference between a Granite and all the other 3-in-1 machines on the market today? Well, plenty. We designed the Granites from the ground up, and included features our customers told us they wanted in the ultimate combination tool. Here are just a few of the features that make this machine stand out from all the rest. First off, we built it bigger and beefed up all of the components to meet light-industrial specifications. With this machine, you'll have a lathe, with a 13" swing over the bed, 7-1/2" swing over the table, and a true 24" between centers. The milling head rotates 360 degrees, can be raised or lowered to accommodate the jobs you are doing, and has an accurate fine-feed mechanism for tool-height adjustments. The carriage and large cross-slide table have deeper dovetail ways for added stability. And with this size table, you'll not only have ample room for milling and drilling, you'll also have a lot more options when it comes to lathe work. Here, we are using it as a lathe boring table. Another unique feature is the Granite's heavy duty motor controller, that gives you infinitely variable speeds, in two speed ranges, right at your fingertips. Simply speed up the motor for small drills, slow it down to finish the hole with a larger drill, reamer, or counter-boring tools. Same holds true for lathe work. Speed it up for small work, slow it down for larger pieces. With a Granite, you can always use exactly the right cutting speed for the work you're doing. It's that simple. And, when you combine this type of control with the machine's quick-change power feed system, you'll have a tool that'll save you time, increase the life of your cutting tools, and produce cuts with a finer finish. We think our Granite machines are the best 3-in-1 machines in the world today. But you don't have to take our word for it. Check out what our owners are saying about their Granites, right here on our website. The Granite 1324. The machine that made Smithy Company the world's leader in premium quality 3-in-1 metalworking machine tools."
