Look like fun, but I prefer the serenity of summer backpacking at the Sods!

why not skis? snowshoes are lame.

Going this weekend over similar trails. However we will be using XC skis.

10 years ago winter backpacking meant a 30 to 50 pound bag.
thank goodness for the recent ultra light equipment!

what trails did you use? where did you start?

We did two nights out. We started at White Grass, hiked up a XC ski trail to FS 80, then went north to the Dobbin Trail. Took Dobbin to Upper Red Creek, then East a bit on Blackbird to get to Red Creek Trail. From there we took Breathed Mtn trail, but we lost it and ended up camping who knows where. We knew generally where we were, and used a topo map and compass to come out right where we started (luckily).
