  • Nice, easy going jazz sound. And the solo work wasn't too shabby for beginners.

But the musicians and ensemble missed the mark on getting the Ellington style.

  • Sounds pretty good. Slowed tempo from original piece, great job though! Especially for a HS Jazz band

  • kudos on using the Essentially Ellington Library. Keep up the hard work. Also, if the budget permits, the bass will sound more true with a K&K golden trinity mic and pickup set with an acoustic image amplifier. if that is not feasible an SWR Blonde amp and a ton of mid's in the mix will do the trick. The hardest part of swinging is getting a true bass sound that is loud enough.

  • Dear gawd, is the conductor supposed to be of some benefit to the band with those muddled half-gestures he is flubbing around? He isn't even in time, half the time.

I wish we'd been given the opportunity to take a stab at pieces like this when I was in highschool. Elgar, Holst, et al are wonderful, but letting us hack away at some Ellington would've been a lot more credible of a swing tune than Zoot Suit Riot (not that it isn't a fun piece...)

  • really slow

its suppost to be alot faster

    good job though

  • Learn to SWING together!!!!

  • yeah...playing all day can force you to do that...

  • Aww, isn't that cute. The trombone solo was down an octave. Also I agree, too slow. Then again, it's a high school band.

  • i really didnt find it that good, the trumpets were too blah, and he whole band wasnt sharp enough

  • bad transition from trumpet solo to sax soli.

  • huge flippin' band... and still could have used more saxaphone to back up trumpet soloist at D
