My ride on the Shanghai maglev from the airport to the edge of downtown.

I nagged the Mrs for ages to go on this and it far surpassed expectations, awesome :-)

At 340km/h (2mins 48sec) you can hear us pass the train going in the other direction, that came as a bit of a supprise.

Top speed that day which I only got on a still shot was 431 km/h.

You can see the Shaghai B&Q & Decathlon at the end !

  • Idiot.

  • I am sure it was, at time 2:50 there are two "sonic boom" sounds ,It was created when trains meet and leave each other and air between two trains was compressed and decompressed.

  • you are a moron, you can't create a sonic boom by having two trains pass each other at faster-than-sound speed. The sonic boom is created by a single object traveling faster than the sound waves it creates as it moves. Sound waves that would usually head forward, faster than the vehicle, get compressed at the front, and the sound of the compressed sound waves is the "sonic boom."

  • what is with that loud sound?if there's no friction then why the noise?

  • I believe the two explosive sound was sonic boom.340x2 = 760 km/h sonic speed. Maybe another train faster than that?

  • Nice ride !! It looks like flying on the ground and the acceleration was smooth.
