ANCHOR:
Several Philippine men went on a shooting spree in a small farming village outside Manila Sunday night. They sprayed automatic weapon fire into houses killing nine people, most of them sleeping children. Here's the full story.
STORY:
At first police suspected that a lone gunman was responsible for the shooting near Calamba town on Sunday night, but regional police say several men were involved. An old feud is believed to be the motive for the apparent revenge-killing.
At least five people were wounded, and were all from one extended family. One father died on the way to hospital, and his twin daughters were killed instantly.
[Perlita Ambat, Relatives Killed]:
"We don't know anyone who would kill him, because the children's father is a good man. No one. They were such good people."
Police say the gunmen escaped after the shooting. Five of the dead were children.
[Marina Balisong, Survivor]:
"Even those who tried to help us were scared, scared to see the dead bodies. It's a good thing someone let us hitch in his jeep, that's how we got here. But before we arrived, my husband died. He did not survive. My two children are dead, they were left in the house."
The town's police chief says a former soldier is being questioned after an empty M-16 magazine found near the crime scene had his name. Wounded victims are being treated at a local hospital.
