The video was taken several month ago. I wanted to test GoPro2 against my old Panasonic FX37 with CCD sensor. I have seen some rolling shutter effect with my original GoPro at 1080P/30fps underwater. I just wanted to see how much difference CCD based camera would be. Well, GoPro2 produces amazing underwater footage at 60fps. Virtually no rolling shutter effect. FX37 video has no rolling shutter at all, but the video IQ was not as clear, smooth, and noise free as GoPro 2. GoPro 2 at 720P/60FPS/170FOV is the best option to use underwater IMO. Original GoPro could not capture footage at 60fps under low light condition.

I also wanted to try some underwater timelapse movie with my modified egg timer. However, when I set the camera, I did not wind the timer correctly, so it was taking pictures at only the sandy area where there were no fish activities. I was expecting it to turn 360 degree and shoot busy underwater world with bunch of fish involved. Well, I got to try next time. It is just that leaving the $300 camera underwater is bit risky. I may not be able to come back to the same spot where I leave my camera.

Anyway, I had some great time in the water. The water was super clear and nice. GoPro Hero 2 works really well underwater.

  • wonderful test - Thank you:)) GoPro 2 is a fantastic camera - Enjoy beautiful diving experience with a new camera:)))

  • @sigi5311 Thank you, Sigi5311. I enjoy GoPro 2 very much. I am just waiting for GoPro to release true underwater case.

  • Very interesting. Now if only youtube played their videos in 60fps. I'd bet the gopro2 looks even better on your computer.

  • @abzde Yes, it looks really smooth on my PC. For Original GoPro HD, the best setup was at 1080P/30FPS/127FOV setting. GoPro2 with the same setting gets pretty noisy performance. For GoPro2, using 170FOV seems to be the best option underwater.

  • Great dive, Love the setup with the lights/camera/gauge setup. Maybe you could get those little fish area marking buoys and tie it to the camera so you could possible recover it from the surface and it would be easier to find too.

  • @otisdis Good idea, I will do that next time. Thanks!
