how did you get 6x plus 3y?!
HammerFud 9 months ago
@HammerFud Hi, the trick with perimeter is adding up the lengths of all of the sides. We've got 3 sides in our triangle, and the lengths are given as 2x, 4x, and 3y. Now the perimeter is the sum of these 3 terms, and when you add 2x and 4x, you get 6x, since 2+4=6. Then 3y is left over, and so the total is 6x+3y. Does that make sense?

Ever had someone come up to you on the street, hand you a shape, and ask you to find the perimeter of that shape? Watch this tutorial, and next time that happens you'll be ready! That was funny but, if you do manual labor this will make you cutting wood, metal, cement pouring, laying sod, and all manner of stuff easier. but as for algebra you don't need that junk doctors don't even use it.

@nicholsjoshua15 Glad we share a sense of humor! I know it may seem like algebra is useless, especially in an age where computers do so much for us, but just because doctors don't use the quadratic equation in clinical practice, doesn't mean that studying algebra was not critical to their intellectual development and eventual daily practice. The thing is that algebra exercises your brain to think abstractly, and that is a skill that is useful for any profession!
