About Dutch Reformed Church in Beacon:

The Reformed Church of Beacon, originally the Reformed Dutch Church of Fishkill Landing, is a congregation of the Reformed Church in America. It claims to be the oldest church in Beacon, New York, United States.[2] It is located on NY 9D about 0.5 miles (1 km) south of Beacon's municipal complex and downtown area. It overlooks the Hudson River from the top of a bluff.

It was designed by Frederick Clarke Withers and built in 1859. It is one of the rare churches he designed in the Victorian Gothic style, and one of the earlier uses of that style in the United States. The church and its cemetery were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It is one of three Withers buildings in the city on the Register.[3]

I spent my childhood in these churches, listening to the godawful organ music and the endlessly boring sermons. I'm an atheist.

It is really a pity that French Protestants ( " Huguenots " ) have to go abroad to find beautiful Reformed churches : they were so harshly persecuted in their own country between the XVI th and XVIII th centuries that most of them had to return to Roman Catholicism or to flee to Protestant countries ( at the peril of their lives , for it was forbidden ) .

Pastors and preachers were systematically executed .

@parpaillotcamisard Here in Brazil the Roman Catholic Church persecuted both the Dutch and drove away, the Reformed Church barely survived here in Brazil, ruled the empire of Satan and persecuted christians Dutch to the point of extinguishing them here, or almost abolish them.

I don't like the organ playing, it sounds creepy. like in one of those bloody scary movies or something... really creepy. as far as the singing, i couldn't hardly hear much of the singing because that creepy organ music was drowning out the singing, all i heard was that creepy organ, get rid of the organ, and just sing the hymn acappella like we told to.

@parpaillotcamisard Beautiful hymn and singing, but sad to see anti-Catholic comments. Protestants persecuted Catholics also, confiscated church land and property for themselves, and in some countries destroyed art and architecture in the name of Christ. I know of few Catholics who act like these events happened "yesterday", but many Protestants DO act as if THEIR persecutions did. Jesus didn't write a book or even own a Bible, the source of Reformation discord. He founded a church.
