To me, what really makes this song are the last few lines: "There you go, once again, you missed the point, and then you turn your fingers at me, and say that I said not to believe. I believe."

Is this song a knock on the bible? That's how I've always perceived it. The second verse he talks about how context gets swapped around when it goes from person to person. Then he refers to the "good book" in his "suggestions on where to place faith" "don't believe everything you read" "BUT! the good book is good and that's well understood, so don't even question if you know what i mean" <---refer to the refrain? "I believe".....I guess it's all relative.
