@Fagottron hehe, actually davy is all digital. yes, even the eyes. i know that you can see bill Nighy wearing makeup in the mocap shoots cause Gore wasnt sure about the eyes coming through. he changed his mind in the end though.

They never quite get the eyes right. It's a shame. Watching the real Andy Serkis, who bares a likeness to Gollum in the first place, is like a breath of fresh air into the lungs of Gollum's character.
I think Peter Jackson could have taken a page from Gore Verbinski's book - instead of replacing the actor completely, leave the eyes in like they did with Bill Nighy playing Davy Jones.

It's funny, the scene they show of this wasn't motion captured at all. All keyframed. Watch behind the scenes stuff on the extended DVD. They go into how this "split personality" scene was done and while it is very close to Serkis' performance, it's NOT motion captured.
