This works for all versions of minecraft (even though I am using 1.8 in this video). The process is the same for every version (1.1.0, 1.0.0, 1.9, 1.8, 1.7, etc.).

Prereq: Portforwarding, own server software (I recommend Bukkit as it allows plugins)

WRITTEN TUTORIAL:
1. Have a portforwarded minecraft server
2. Go to "no-ip.com"
3. Create an account
4. Go to downloads and download the "DNS Update Client"
5. When finished run it and keep the window up
6. Go back to homepage
7. Click add host
8. Fill out your own hostname (your friends will connect with this)
9. Choose Host Type: DNS HOST (A)
10. Fill in the IP Address box with your external IP (go to whatismyip.com for that)
11. Click Create Host
12. Now open the DNS Update Client (DUC) from your programs. Sync your account
13. Click select hosts
14. Select your domain and save
15.Click Refresh Now
16. Go to Start Run and type in cmd
17. In cmd type in "ipconfig /all"
18. Scroll up and copy down the "IPv4" address
19. Go to your server.properties
20. Put that copied IP Address in the IP Address section
21. Save and start your server
22. Your done!

Remember: You need to occasionally run the "No-Ip DUC" in case your computer IP changes. This will keep the No-Ip address working.

To Connect: Type in "yourhostname.yourchosendomainname.org:25565" in the Minecraft multiplayer option.
