While a portal site can indeed host files, often to the surprise of its owner(s), most files are checked by the community and staff. If you ever are curious about a file, you can use Avast! or (I believe) almost any other decent anti-virus software to scan the .RAR/.ZIP (etc) file, download link, etc. Checking comments on videos about the download or on the down-load's page are also great ways of checking verification :)
