http://www.pbs.org/washingtonweek As talk of the impact of the Tea Party is shaping the primary and general election mid-terms this year, we take a look back to 1994. With Republicans capturing the House for the first time in nearly a half century and Bill Clinton's presidency on the rocks, there was buzz in Washington about whether a third party or independent candidacy headed by Colin Powell could emerge to challenge Clinton for re-election in 1996.

  • The Tea Party should register as an official political party.

That way a lot of the real nutters (not that the majority of Republicans aren't nutters to begin with) will leave the Republican Party, and go over there.

The vast majority of Tea Partyers are Rupublican.

So if they split off from the Republican Party, that would make the Republican Party a tad less extreeme.

Also, the division, would probbably weaken both of them.
